Objectives of the Alliance
The Border Alliance for Green Space is a network of community groups involved in urban and regional parks, gardens and reserves and the environment. It is comprised of groups that operate within the Albury and Wodonga regional catchment.
Alliance member groups work together to:
- provide mutual support to existing and emerging community groups working to support and promote public open space (for example, Landcare groups, environment groups, friends groups of parks and gardens);
- promote the preservation and enhancement of public open space in the Albury Wodonga regional catchment;
- educate the community about the value of public open space; and
- encourage the community to take ownership of public open space.
This will be achieved through:
- working in cooperation and with integrity with each other and other stakeholders
- sharing information, ideas and resources between member groups
- supporting and promoting the activities of member groups
- participating in local and regional policy development relating to public open space
- participating in local and regional planning for public open space
- participating in public discussion about the importance and value of public open space issues
- participating in local and regional events to promote the importance and value of public open space
- sharing knowledge with each other and the community
Outcomes
- Individual groups within the Alliance feel strongly supported
- Community groups involved in the promotion, protection and enhancement of public open space have a positive public profile
- The Alliance is a resource valued by member groups, managers of public open space and relevant policy makers
- Policy makers, managers of public open space and the community have a better understanding of, and embrace, the social, environmental, economic and cultural values of public open space
- Greater involvement of the community in the management of public open space
- Public open space is protected and enhanced for the use by current and future generations
